Merry Jolly

TJ and I had our little Christmas celebration on Friday night, complete with a fantastic dinner for two of beef tenderloin, smashed potatoes (TJ makes the best ones), and asparagus.  Gingerbread men for dessert, of course!  Hardly any kitchen endeavor of mine is ever complete without some kind of mishap.  This time, I forgot to buy beef broth at the store for the red wine sauce (surely our pantry had such a staple!), so the sauce was not a rich and flavorful as it should have been, but tasty none the less.

We also took a nice chilly walk around the downtown lights.

We picked Friday night to open our presents for each other -- tomorrow we will finish our Christmas celebration by opening our gifts and stockings from our families. Cinnamon rolls too!  We both worked on and off all weekend (me all weekend), so it definitely put a damper on the Christmas holiday a little this year, sort of an over-before-you-know-it kind of feeling.  It was our first Christmas totally just the two of us without any family, and my first Christmas without any kind of trip home -- the past few family has been here, or we have traveled before and after the holiday to see family.  We keep reminding each other that we are fortunate enough to be a position to take care of all those folks who can't be with their family on the holiday either -- not very many people get to say they save lives on a daily basis :)

We Skyped my parents on Christmas before I headed out to work for the night -- first time Skyping!  I must say I quite liked it once we ironed out all the bugs of the interwebs.

Lastly,  this song makes me smile -- I am all about listening to Christmas music into January (bah humbug for the radio stations that stop abruptly after Christmas day).
